The 2024 Carbonell Awards – South Florida’s own version of the Tony’s – were presented on November 11th at the Lauderhill Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale. “Nearly 90 productions at 29 different theatres were evaluated by a diverse group of more than 40 experienced judges representing all three participating counties (Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach). In mid-September, the Carbonell Awards announced 120 finalists from 13 different theaters during last season,” says Carbonell Board President Gary Schweikhart.
Bruce was honored the be awarded the Carbonell for Outstanding performance by an actor in a lead male role in a musical, for his performance as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at the Wick Theatre in January and February, 2024. Fiddler had a total of four nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director (Norb Joerder), and Outstanding performance by an actor in a lead female role (Patti Gardner).
