In May 2011, I premiered in the new Off-Broadway musical, The Sphinx Winx. The show is a wacky misinterpretation of the classic love triangle of Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Marc Antony. I played the lovelorn Caesar, who apparently was quite the song-and-dance man! The show also featured Bret Shuford as Antony, Erika Amato as Cleopatra, as well as Rebecca Riker, Beth Cheryl Tarnow and Ryan Williams.
The show ran through mid-June at the Samuel Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row (42nd and Ninth Avenue). Our official opening night was May 18th, and we got some nice notices in the press, including The Associated Press, Theatermania and NYTheatre.com.
Personal historical note: Theatre Row, including the Samuel Beckett Theatre, is now a beautifully renovated Off-Broadway complex of five jewel-box theatres, but my long-time friends may remember that twelve years earlier, the moldy, dilapidated Samuel Beckett was home to my very first New York stage appearance in a musical called Lyz!, an update of the Lysistrata story, set in present-day Manhattan. Something about heroines of antiquity keeps bringing me back to the Beckett!
