It’s 1975. A used car salesman, a dentist, a real estate agent, a financial advisor, a deli owner, and a teacher put their careers and families on hold to pursue their passion \u2013 jazz \u2013 with their first professional \u201cgig\u201d in the Catskills. The results are funny, touching, and unexpected. Written by Douglas J. Cohen<\/a><\/b> (No Way to Treat a Lady) and based on the film by Pulitzer Prize winner Frank D. Gilroy, The Gig<\/em>\u00a0won a prestigious Richard Rodgers Grant and the inaugural No\u00ebl Coward Prize.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Presented in July 2014 at NYMF <\/a><\/strong>(the New York Musical Theatre Festival), The Gig\u00a0<\/em>was a huge hit.\u00a0The\u00a0boys in the band\u00a0included\u00a0Michael Minarik<\/b> (Rock of Ages<\/i>), Steve Routman<\/a><\/b> (La Bete<\/i>), Larry Cahn<\/b> (Guys & Dolls<\/i>), Nick Gasworth<\/a><\/b> (A Christmas Story<\/i>),\u00a0Kevin Pariseau<\/b> (Legally Blonde<\/i>) and me as warm-hearted deli owner Georgie. The cast also featured\u00a0Stephen Berger<\/b> (Kinky Boots<\/i>), Doug Eskew\u00a0<\/b>(The Color Purple<\/i>), Dee Roscioli<\/a>,\u00a0Donna Vivino<\/a> <\/b>and Kate Fahrner<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>(all three – coincidentally – former witches of Wicked<\/i>!). The show was directed by Igor Goldin<\/a><\/b>, with music direction by Jonathan (Smitty) Smith<\/b>, and choreography by Keith Andrews<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Gig<\/em> was the\u00a0most honored show\u00a0of NYMF 2014, with FIVE wins\u00a0– excellence in lyrics, excellence in music, outstanding orchestrations, outstanding music direction and outstanding individual performance (Larry Cahn), and TWO honorable mentions – excellence in\u00a0direction and outstanding ensemble performance. Congrats to the whole Gig<\/em> gang!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
