It is (of course) a classic American musical, based on the short stories of Tevye the Dairyman, written by Sholom Aleychem over a hundred years ago in Yiddish. What if you could experience <em>Fiddler<\/em> in Yiddish, the language of its original source material?&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, guess what? Now you can!&nbsp;&nbsp;In the summer of 2018, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene presented <em>Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish<\/em> (aka Fiddler afn Dakh), for the first time ever in this country, at its theatre at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park in Manhattan, for a short seven week run. The show was the surprise hit of the summer, extended four times through the end of the year. From there, it was picked up by commercial producers <strong>Hal Luftig<\/strong> and <strong>Jana Robbins<\/strong> who moved it to <strong>Stage 42<\/strong> on 42nd Street. The show has won multiple awards, including the <strong>2019 Drama Desk Award for Best Revival<\/strong>!<br><em>Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish<\/em> is directed by Tony-winner <strong>Joel Grey<\/strong> (<em>Cabaret, Chicago<\/em>, etc. etc.). I am thrilled to play the lovelorn butcher <strong>Lazar Wolf<\/strong>, alongside <strong>Steven Skybell as Tevye<\/strong>, and starring <strong>Jackie Hoffman as Yente<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I also understudy Tevye<\/strong>, a role I\u2019ve loved playing since I was a teenager. So far, I\u2019ve been on twelve times as Tevye. <strong><a href=\"mailto:mail@brucesabath.com\">Contact me to receive email alerts<\/a><\/strong> about when I\u2019m on (that is, if I know in advance!).\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And did I mention it\u2019s all in yiddish?
